Arrangements are in place between insurers and credit hire companies for the provision of replacement vehicles to innocent third parties, notably the Credit Hire Protocol (General Terms of Agreement) which is a voluntary non-binding arrangement. The links on this page give access to the protocol documentation, details of subscribers etc.

Subscriber CHOs (Updated 30.3.2017) Subscribing credit hire companies and contact details.

Important Note re Subscriber CHOs:

The listing that was previously on the website has been completely reviewed and updated. CHOs have now been excluded where, for example, they have left the GTA, gone into administration, not paid their GTA subscription. The contact names, emails and telephone numbers are for the nominated person to handle GTA communications; these are not the same people for dispute resolution (a database is being finalised) but they will be aware of their company’s contact points.

GTA Rates:

The maximum rates for hires commencing on or after 1st July 2014 are:

Operation of the GTA

The GTA Technical committee has agreed some Frequently Asked Questions and Answers on the operation of the GTA. These cover issues that have been raised by subscribers. They will be added to as new questions and answers are agreed. It is hoped that they will cover some of the main issues that can delay the processing of claims and thus speed up settlements.

Disputes on vehicle groups: Where there is any doubt or dispute on the group of the CHO hire vehicle that applies e.g. for cars that do not appear as examples in the groups or commercial vehicles, then you can contact GTAvehicles@abi.org.uk for allocation to the appropriate group. This service is available to GTA subscribers only. You should use 'Vehicle group request' as the email subject heading, and please note that only requests using this form can be processed.

The grouping process is only to be used to ascertain the group of the CHO's hire vehicle, not the claimant's pre-accident vehicle. Enquiries are usually considered by a Vehicle Group Sub-committee once/twice a month so there may be a delay in providing clarification.
